Mark Markov-Grinberg (1907-2006).
Markov-Grinberg learned photo-reportage in the mid 1920s while working at the newspaper Sovyetski Yug (Soviet South) in Rostov-on-Don. In the early 1930s he moved to Moscow to become a correspondent for the Soyuzfoto agency. Much of his work during this period concentrated on the theme of labor and many of these images were powerful portraits of workers such as the miner, N. Izotov. At the beginning of the World War II, Markov Grinberg was a private in the Soviet army, later joining the newspaper Slovo Boitsa (Soldiers Word) in 1943 as a photo-journalist.
